Tips and ideas for where to go on a trip

Lookout Tower Žalý

At an altitude of over 1,000 m above sea level, a view of the panorama of the western part of the Giant Mountains, or the Bohemian Basin, awaits you in favorable weather. Orientation from the lookout tower is facilitated by the description on its gallery. The ridge part of the path to the lookout tower offers a great view. The newly built restaurant in the style of a log cabin with a tiled stove will certainly serve as a destination. With children and all-terrain strollers, you can complete the route in about 45 minutes on foot.

Restaurant Kněžická chalupa

A stylish restaurant where you can have a great meal. The Kněžická cottage is about a 60-minute walk through the forest around Ambrožov premene towards Vrchlabí.

Farm Hucul Janova Hora

Follow the tourist signs leading to the “Rovinka” crossroads. Here you will see clear markings of the route leading to the farm. Among the services that Farma Hucul offers its visitors are horse riding lessons and off-road trips. You will have a walk through the forest on the asphalt for about 1:30, a maximum of 2 hours of walking in total. Also suitable for strollers and bicycles. Children and adults can enjoy refreshments and a children’s playground at the Rovinka buffet along the way.

Stachelberg artillery fortress

Stachelberg will attract visitors with its military-historical exhibition, equipped with models of infantry weapons, fortress equipment, plans, photo documents and a plastic table depicting the fortress after completion. Part of the underground with a tangle of warehouses, barracks and communication corridors is also accessible to visitors. Not far from Trutnov, near the village of Libeč, you can visit another object of fortress fortification from 1935-38, namely the infantry blockhouse T-S 63.

Bobsleigh track Špindlerův Mlýn

A truly extraordinary experience of the ride (over 1400 m), the speed of which everyone chooses according to their abilities, is enhanced by the beautiful surrounding panorama of the Giant Mountains. All age groups can ride the single or double-seat bobsleighs without any problems, children from eight years old independently, up to eight years old accompanied by their parents. Thanks to high-quality lighting, it can also be operated after dark.

The road to Špindlerův Mlýn

The shortest way to Špindlerův Mlýn is via the “Rovinka” crossroads on an asphalt road to the center. It is a pleasant walk, but expect about 3 hours of walking – in total. Also suitable for strollers and mountain bikes.

Krkonoš Museum Vrchlabi, Jilemnice Museum

In case of bad weather, a visit to these facilities is highly recommended. The tastefully organized exhibits will offer you a glimpse into the history of the mountains you have visited and the lifestyle of the local people. The journey to Vrchlabí can also be completed on foot along a less frequented road. Then count on a walk of just over 1 hour.

More tips for a car trip

Availability max. approx. 50 min. drive

Klokočské rocks, Bozkov caves, Mumlava waterfall, St. Kateřina campsite, Sněžka, bobsleigh track in Pec p. Sněžkou, toboggan run on Černá hora – in winter, in summer downhill on off-road scooters, by bus from Špindlerův Mlýn to Špindlerův Mlýn – from there on foot through the Bílý Elbe valley, Čertova strouha – back to Špindlerův Mlýn.

Mountain bike trips

If you decide to go on a mountain bike trip, you can choose, for example, the route to Špindlerův Mlýn, and from there take the cable car to the “Medvědín” hill. The cable car is adapted to transport mountain bikes. From Medvědín you can go down through Mísečky to Rovinka and further to Benecko, all marked with signs. From Mědvědín you cycle practically all the way downhill or along the contour line – even children can handle this trip. However, you can also choose other routes by bike. Along the contour lines, i.e. without any elevation gain, or even routes through more difficult mountain terrain.
